Oral history, 2000

Robert Mangold discusses his early interest in art and art making, and his education at the Cleveland Art Institute and then at Yale University. He talks about his tenure as a guard at MoMA and subsequently as a page in the Library. He describes what it was like to be an artist working at the Museum in the 1960s and includes anecdotes about other contemporary artists also working there. He reminisces about the New York art scene at the time and events like the Cuban Missile Crisis and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Mangold talks at length about this own artwork, specifically those pieces owned by the Museum, and addresses conservation issues.
